In such a social media dominated time, there are many different ways to become popular in the cyber world. With so many platforms and so many opportunities, almost anyone can become social media famous. The real question is what are some steps you can follow to gain popularity on social media? Well, it really does not take all that much  to gain online fame!

The first thing you will need to do is establish what you will focus on. Try finding something you are passionate about and are willing post about very often. For example, if you are a writer, then you can start a blog about writing tips/tricks or maybe start a website to showcase your works. After that, start thinking about your ideal audience. If you are a teenager that loves to play musical instruments, try using specific language that will attract that audience. One tip is to avoid being someone who you are not. If you are a part of the target audience, then it will be easier to attract more people!

The next thing is to start thinking about where your followers are going to be; would they be involved in social media accounts or website blogs? Think about the different types of blogs, like blogging (regular article based updates), vlogging (video blogging using updates through video), and microblogging (updates based on short social media updates).  If your target audience is pulled toward a certain type of blog, then you should focus on that type and worry less about the others. On another note, the platform you choose will change the way you present yourself. Look at social media as an example. On Instagram you should use more hashtags then you would on Twitter. Speaking of Twitter, using a meme or gif will be more popular than just using words. Senior Dominique Bowen knows the power of social media: “Usually when posting a picture, meme, or tweet on Twitter/ Tumblr, you can select certain hashtags to bring that tweet to others attention and get more likes!”

The next thing to focus on is when to write blogs and the subjects of the posts. When it comes time to post, you need to work on posting during key interest times for your target audience. A key tip for posting is to talk to your audience, instead of talking at them. What this means is that instead of just telling your followers something, ask them questions, respond to their comments, while also keeping good relations with everyone by avoiding sensitive subjects (unless the purpose of your account is to poke fun at these things). If you do this well, you are sure to up your follower count!

Along with that, make sure that your social media personality is constant. With so many different people and companies online, having a recognizable voice is important for your brand. Having the same name, profile picture, and vocabulary is important to stay recognisable. Finally, self advertising is important, but can become annoying overtime. Saying, “Follow my account!!‘ in every Instagram post can be very irritating for your followers, but at the same time is a crucial tool to use. So finding a middle ground is important for everyone. Following all these steps and using these tips is a great way to become social media famous in a short amount of time!
