In a terrifying ordeal this past Saturday, South Carolina State junior, Tyvoris Solomon, collapsed during the Bulldogs’ game against the NC State Wolfpack. Solomon played the first three minutes and fifty-eight seconds of the game before being subbed out. While supporting his team from the sidelines, he reportedly fell unconscious around the thirteen minute mark of the first half of the game. South Carolina State’s athletic trainer began performing CPR after determining that Solomon was unresponsive. Emergency medical personnel then sent a single shock to Solomon’s heart using a defibrillator. Upon resuscitation, Solomon was carted off on a stretcher and taken from the PNC Arena, located in Raleigh, to UNC Rex Hospital for further evaluation. Head coach of the South Carolina State team, Murray Garvin, accompanied Solomon to the hospital. Both teams unanimously agreed to resume the game after the nearly forty minute delay in honor of their fallen teammate, with the Bulldogs being led by their associate coach, Rio Pitt. South Carolina State, however, suffered an unfortunately hard hit with a 107-71 loss. At this time, Solomon is said to be in stable conditions with a sound prognosis. It has been determined that Solomon underwent cardiac arrest, which lasted for nearly three minutes.
