Millbrook High School football games are known for not only being one of the most fun experiences as a student, but also one of the most memorable. These games showcase the dedication and pride Millbrook takes in its football program. While every Millbrook football player is dedicated to the sport and their team, some students stand out not only on the field, but also off the field as well. Jaylen Donaldson, a starter on offense and defense, is a prime example.

Jaylen prides himself on being a role model, excelling in school,  displaying excellent maturity to his peers, coaches, and teachers. Jaylen first got involved with the sport when he was about eight years old after his mom registered him to burn off some of his pent-up energy as a kid. Now Jaylen is a full-time student athlete, playing both football and basketball for Millbrook

For him, the most important part of the game is “to have fun and do your best.” Being a part of the Varsity football team since his sophomore year, many of his teammates look up to him for inspiration and advice. For anyone interested in joining the football team, he has this to say: “I think you should really join it. It is really a nice thing. It is a brotherhood. It brings [us] together, and it’s not only football; it also helps you stay on top of your grades.”

Jaylen is also involved in both the Millbrook and Raleigh community. For example, he goes out to feed the homeless with his mom, volunteers at his younger sister’s school, and helps out his old football team.  When the Battle of the Brooks took place a few weeks ago at Millbrook Stadium, he was one of the speakers who spoke to the middle schoolers.

When asked to explain why he is spectacular in only thirty seconds, he says: “I’m a caring person, and whatever I do, I am gonna give my all and try to be the best at it. I am really open-minded, so I like to listen to other people when they have something to say. I really try not to judge people; off their looks or how I see them but more so off how I get to know them.” Truly the words of a leader, proving that he is more than worthy of the praise he receives.
