Ms. Singleton has just been awarded the “Relationship Rockstar” where she was measured based on different standards. This award was based on her outstanding service to others, and how she was able to create a safe space for all students.
Being a teacher has not always been on Ms. Singleton’s radar, it came from her mother. She refers to her mother as her inspiration, “I watched her growing up and I used to help her grade her papers. She made me realize that this is what I wanted to do.” It never crossed her mind that she could become a teacher when she got older. After graduating high school, she went to college to become a social worker. Her dream career at the time was to be a licensed clinical social worker, a therapist, and remediation in the community. She explains that she still finds herself embodying this in her classroom, that is how she wants to approach her students.
Students thoroughly love going to Ms. Singleton’s room, senior Carson Herrera describes her room as, “ A safe space for all.” He describes the feeling of going to her classroom makes him excited to learn. He says what makes her classroom unique is its authenticity. She strives to make her classroom a space where students can thrive and embrace their passion for learning. Her favorite thing about teaching is the interactions she has with the students. Ms. Singleton thrives on being able to build connections with her students, even if they bug her!
Even though Ms. Singleton is a food and nutrition teacher, she loves to cook in her free time away from school. Watching cooking and baking shows is a big part of Ms. Singleton’s passion for cooking and she continues to watch them often. She says if there is a documentary on food and how it affects one’s body, she will be watching it. The Pioneer Women is a favorite of hers.
