Summer is officially over! This means Halloween is right around the corner. As autumn rolls in, you’ll start to see more and more spooky-themed items in grocery stores across the nation. But, there are so many choices on what to buy and overconsumption hasn’t made it easier either. Not to worry! Millbrook students and staff have got you covered with their recommendations!
- Starbursts
To start our list, we have Starbursts at number ten! Small packs of these chewy yet fruity candies are quite popular to hand out during Halloween. They’re also quite versatile, coming in a variety of flavors such as tropical, strawberry, and lemon. Another plus is that they’re a great nut-free alternative to some of the other candies on this list!
- Reese’s Pieces
Similar to M&M’s, these tiny candies are filled with predominantly peanut butter and covered in a thin, candy shell. However, there is no chocolate in these candies. But, they’re also another popular candy to pass out to trick-or-treaters, especially when combined with Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups!
- M&M’s
If you happen to go trick-or-treating, you’ll probably see a couple of bags of M&M’s in your basket. They come with a variety of fillings such as peanut butter and caramel. If you have any leftovers, you can use these candies for cookies, trail mixes, or even popcorn!
- Candy Corn
Candy corn is an iconic Halloween staple. Considering the sugary sweetness of these candies, I often find it hard to eat more than a handful. But, they’re a Halloween classic and help us get into the mood for the spooky season!
- Twix
These biscuit-based chocolate bars come in different flavors such as salted caramel and cookies & creme. So, if you’re looking for an indulgent candy bar this Halloween, Twix might be the one for you!
- KitKat
Hershey’s has released a cinnamon toast-flavored twist on the classic chocolate-covered wafers. KitKat’s new “Ghost Toast” was among Hershey’s new Halloween drop and will be available as a limited-time flavor. So, make sure to try it before they’re gone!
- Skittles
I’d say these rainbow-colored candies are quite popular to be passed out during Halloween, especially since there’s so much variety! From sour skittles to gummies, these fruity candies are another great alternative for those with allergies!
- Twizzlers
These licorice-type candies come in various flavors such as strawberry, licorice, and cherry. This year, Twizzler Ghosts will be the newest addition to the candy line as part of Hershey’s Halloween drop. Be on the lookout for these cherry-flavored, ghost-shaped candies at your local supermarket!
- Sour Patch
Considering the variety of these sour candies, it’s no surprise that they ranked pretty highly in this list. With flavors like watermelon and strawberry, it’s safe to say that you won’t get bored with these tart candies! Especially with the variety of shapes that Sour Patch comes in!
- Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
Finally, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups comes in first place as the top Halloween candy! As a new Halloween release, the Hershey’s company has revealed an exciting new flavor. The new Reese’s Werewolf Tracks put a new twist on the classic peanut butter cups with an addition of vanilla creme.
And there you have it! That wraps up the top ten favorite Halloween candies according to the Millbrook community! However, it’s important to note that your taste may change as you grow older. According to one of our Millbrook civics teachers John Jackson, he likes sweet things less and prefers salty and savory things more as an adult. So, don’t be afraid to try new things! Halloween only comes once a year so make the best out of it and stay safe!
