As voting for the 2024 Presidential Election begins, many celebrities are making the choice to announce their endorsements for who should take office in January 2025. Of course, no one should make their voting decisions based solely off of who their favorite celebrity is voting for, but celebrities can make a big impact on the mind’s of voters, especially when they have digital platforms to share the specific parts of a candidate’s campaign they agree with.
Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris has gotten a lot of buzz, specifically because of controversy regarding former President Donald Trump sharing a tweet of an AI generated image of Swift that reads, “Taylor wants you to vote for Donald Trump.” After the Presidential Debate on Tuesday, September 10, Swift took to Instagram to express her discomfort with the AI image posted by Trump and officially make her endorsement for the 2024 election. As for why she would be supporting Harris, Swift stated, “because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.” Many other celebrities have taken to social media to share their picks for president, such as businessman and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. On his platform X, a majority of his recent tweets have been about the election and his support for former President Trump. Musk even appeared at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on October 5. He told the crowd, “The other side [democrats] wants to take away your freedom of speech, they want to take away your right to bear arms, they want to take away your right to vote, effectively.”
