On October 16th, 2024, singer and former One Direction Band member Liam Payne, was pronounced dead after falling from the balcony of his 3rd story hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The local emergency medical system reported that he died on the scene suffering from a traumatic head injury. Associated Press reported that hotel staff called the police to report an erratic guest who “is overwhelmed with drugs and alcohol” and that “He breaks things up. He is tearing the whole room apart.” Hotel staff also told police they were worried about him because of his bizarre behavior and the fact that he has a balcony attached to his room. Payne was reported to be in Argentina to see fellow former One Direction member, Niall Horan’s concert.
Only hours after the incident, TMZ released some controversial pictures of Payne’s destroyed room, including a smashed TV and alcohol and drugs scattering the room. Pictures of Payne’s deceased body were also released by TMZ but taken down almost immediately after backlash from fans.
Payne was active on Snapchat the day he died, posting a selfie with the caption “lovely day in Argentina.” Payne was in Argentina with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy, who was reported to have left Argentina just 2 days prior.
At only 31 years old, Payne left behind his son Bear, whom he shares with Cheryl Cole, who is just 7 years old. Payne’s son was not with him during his passing. All of Payne’s family and friends have yet to respond to the tragic news.
