On December 19th, Millbrook will be hosting a Campus Cleanup after school. The Cleanup counts as one hour of community service and is a pre approved CAS (creativity, activity, service for IB students) for activity. There are multiple clubs participating in the Cleanup including the: Black Student Union, Care Impact, Culture Club, English Honor Society, Student Equity, and Women’s Health Outreach Advocates. However, you do not need to be a part of any of these clubs to participate.
Just looking around the parking lot, one can find an abundance of trash littered throughout and stuck in the bushes. Senior Jaylin Halim, who organized the Cleanup said, “I decided to organize a cleanup because I feel like it is important to give back to our school, and it is our job to make sure it is beautiful.” Halim also noted the importance of coming together as a school which is why he made sure to get multiple clubs involved.
Activities such as this cleanup are a great way for students to get involved with the school while also allowing for the opportunity to meet new people. Sophomore John Kivett says, “I think things like campus clean-ups are very important because they are great ways to get people involved at our school, meeting new people, and seeing new sides of the school they may have never seen before. It’s also a great way to promote community service and cleaning up after ourselves.”
Students will meet in Mrs. Genesky’s room (1413) to get their supplies and will then go out into the school, both indoors and outdoors, collecting any trash they find.
If you are in need of service hours, an activity for CAS, or are just interested in getting involved and making the school look better, consider joining the Campus Cleanup December 19th, after school in room 1413!
