The recent wildfires in California have caused large amounts of destruction. People have lost their homes, family members, and many of their belongings. Even celebrities have experienced this devastation, losing homes and some of their most prized possessions. From family houses to recently purchased properties, these tragic fires have shown that natural disasters really can impact anyone. Amongst this lots of celebrities are using their platforms in positive ways. Organizing donation opportunities, sharing ways people can help, and bringing awareness to these devastations are just a few of the many ways celebrities are using their fame and platform to help those affected.
Celebrities have taken to social media platforms to share the devastations and their homes that have been burnt to ashes by these fires. Paris Hilton’s Malibu beachfront property, where she lived with her husband and two children was unfortunately destroyed. She posted to Instagram and wrote “I’m standing here in what used to be our home, and the heartbreak is truly indescribable.” Miles Teller and Keleigh Teller’s home was reduced to ashes. She shared a photo on Instagram of the property with the caption “We will come back stronger than ever” she also thanked the first responders. Many shared that they have lost childhood homes. Places where they grew up and memories they share with their families. Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr shared the loss of his childhood home, which his parents bought in 1969. Heidi Montag and husband Spencer Pratt lost their home to the wildfires as well as many of their belongings. Pratt took to social media to promote his wife Montag’s album so they could use the benefits to help provide for their family. Many on social media were skeptical at first considering some backlash the couple has gotten for the presence on reality TV, but most have put that aside to help Montag and Pratt and their family in these difficult times. Montag’s album hit No.1 on iTunes and the couple posted that they couldn’t be more grateful. “I’ve just started following Spencer Pratt on social media after the sad events. What he did for his wife was really impactful and brought a little light to the situation” says Kayleigh Prather, a student at Millbrook High School.
Aside from these tragedies many celebrities not affected by the fires are using their platforms to provide support and relief to those in need. Actress, Jennifer Garner, has made a huge appearance and impact after the tragic fires by working with Save The Children, which she has been a long time board member of. “Save the Children did this inside of shelters for years as part of our disaster relief. I’ve witnessed it all over the country. It’s crazy that it’s in my backyard now,” says Garner in an interview with NBC News. Garner also shared with NBC news that she lost a friend to these fires and she wants to do whatever she can to help and support people. Megan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, lended a hand by working with the Altadena Teen Girls Fire Recovery. She provided beauty products, new clothing, and lunch for many of the people there. She was also seen talking with many of the people and comforting those affected. These are just a few of the celebrities that have been providing and helping those in need. Many celebrities are showing acts of kindness and compassion that everyone needs to see right now in these difficult times.
