The Golden Globes is a well-known Hollywood event that takes place every year to highlight the best films and television shows. Actors and performers are recognized for their incredible performances and are presented with awards. Every year the Golden Globes is hosted by someone in the entertainment industry. This year was the 82nd Golden Globes which was hosted by Nikki Glaser, a stand-up comedian and actress. She marked history by being the first solo female to host the Golden Globes. With that, she stunned many on her amazing job at hosting and her witty jokes.
Glaser started her comedy career at the age of 18 working with many well-known comedians. She has been featured on podcasts, TV shows, and much more which has boosted her career quickly. In 2024 Glaser went viral for her Tom Brady roast, a special on Netflix in which Nikki Glaser flamed Brady for his career, relationships, and much more. It gained a ton of attention on social media which also made Glaser more well known. She brought the same sharp wit from the roast to the Golden Globes this year. Targeting celebrities’ relationships, looks, and careers. She created a light-hearted banter with the audience which made the evening entertaining and engaging.
Glaser’s monologue kicked off the night with clever jokes and lighthearted jabs at the celebrities in attendance which created a lively atmosphere. Her delivery was both sincere and entertaining, striking a balance between humor and the more serious moments of the evening. Her jokes tied to recent news and trends which had the audience engaged and comfortable. She began with jabs at Ozempic, the recent election, Diddy scandal, and she wasted no time targeting many actors who had been nominated for TV shows and movies. The audience responded positively, laughing along and enjoying the fun.
The whole night was a success for Glaser but a few of her most memorable moments were her mashup of the song ‘Popular’ from the musical Wicked and lyrics about the new movie Conclave. She poked fun at scandals and how men prominently are the ones involved in scandals, which got a good laugh out of the women in the audience. She also targeted a few celebrities in particular by making fun of Adam Sandler and Timothee Chalamet. She roasted Sandler’s pronunciation of words and Chalamet’s new mustache. She referenced several head-line moments such as Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s engagement and the meme of Ariana Grande holding Cynthia Erivo’s finger during the Wicked press tour.
Not only did she amaze the crowd with her humor, she also stood out with amazing outfits. She had at least 10 outfit changes from the red carpet to the end of the show. Aside from her looks she roasted many celebrities for their looks. “I just want to say you all look amazing tonight,” she told the audience, “You really brought it. And I love where you put your cheekbones” making a jab at plastic surgery. Though it may seem Glaser’s humor was a bit harsh, the crowd found Glaser quite comedic and light-hearted. She was able to mix the jokes and humor with compliments and compassion.
Glaser got a lot of attention on social media after her amazing performance. Many women praised her and talked of wanting Glaser to host every year. Everyone enjoyed her humor, especially after last year’s failure when Jo Koy got a lot of heat for his insensitive and sexist jokes. What was different about Glaser from Koy was she was able to make jokes and jabs at famous celebrities without being offensive or discrediting them. Her comedy was playful and funny while still respectful. “I watched the Golden Globes this year for the first time in a while, and I really enjoyed Nikki Glaser. Her hosting was different from anything I’d seen before, and she was hilarious,” said Kaitlin Bass, a student at Millbrook High School.
All in all, Nikki Glaser has left a memorable impression on the Golden Globes which will be hard to beat in years to come. As time progresses it’s harder to find ways to make comedy funny without being insensitive, but Glaser was able to do just that. She didn’t hold back but knew that at the end of the day, these are humans and they deserve the same amount of respect as any person.
