Dulce Marban has been recognized as an Outstanding Senior for the tremendous impact she makes around the Millbrook campus and as well as her impressive academic achievements. Marban is dedicated and hardworking, which is reflected by her list of activities. She is the vice president of the Millbrook Executive Board, co-president of the National Achievers Society, has been a member of the Millbrook Women’s Flag Football Team for the past two years, is a member of the National and Math Honor Societies, and volunteers for the Team Leadership Corporation and NCFC Top Soccer. She was also previously a member of the Wildcat Pride Dance Team. But, her efforts aren’t just extracurricular, she is diligent in the classroom as well. After taking seven CCP classes during the summer and additional courses throughout her junior and senior years, she’ll be graduating with her Associate’s Degree this year! This puts her on track to earn her Bachelor’s early, and after that, she aspires to get a Master’s Degree at the age of 22. Marban said she is “very fortunate to have parents who want [her] to put [her] education before anything else.”
Marban will be attending NC State University and majoring in Chemical Engineering. NC State’s engineering program is ranked the sixth best in the country! Marban says her proudest accomplishment is being accepted into the program. Marban has big goals that her work ethic and drive will push her towards. She stated, “One thing I wish people knew about me is I really want to work for NASA. I don’t want to go into outer space, I want to work with renewable energy or build spaceships, which is why I picked my major for State, and hopefully in the next 20 years I can reach my goal.”
Marban didn’t always want to go into the STEM field, she originally planned to go into nursing. She discovered her passion for chemistry during her sophomore year. When her chemistry teacher Mrs. Bartney transitioned to be an assistant principal, Marban’s class was left without a teacher at first, and she took it upon herself to learn the curriculum, even helping other students. She stated, “[…] I taught the classes sometimes, and I tutored, and that’s when I found out ‘Hey, I actually really love chemistry,’ and it like, clicked.”
Mrs. Bartney spoke to seeing Marban’s growth since her sophomore year. Mrs. Bartney said, “In my chemistry class for that short time, Dulce was a leader and eagerly wanted to assist anyone who needed help in the classroom. Since becoming an administrator, I’ve also worked with Dulce in the National Achievers Society where she has been a vital leader within the organization. She continues to work with students within the club and also with Tutor Cats. She has been a positive influence because of her personality and her desire to work with anyone, no matter how big or small the need.”
Fellow student and friend of Marban, Jason Holt, also spoke to her character, saying, “Dulce’s one of the most friendly and approachable people I know—her hard work is seen academically as well as in making Millbrook a more vibrant place. I think her drive, shown through involvement in clubs all around Millbrook, and her supportive attitude as a friend gives her all the qualities making up an Outstanding Senior.”
Whether Marban is reading the morning announcements, creating fun videos for the @millbrookevents Instagram, dominating on the flag football field, or tutoring her peers, her infectious enthusiasm and outgoing personality betters the lives of those around her. Marban has big aspirations, and her dedication to learning will continue to guide her as she reaches her goals. Marban’s character and achievements make her extremely deserving of recognition along with the 14 other Millbrook Outstanding Seniors this year.
