The 67th annual Grammys were held on February 2, 2025. With it being almost two weeks after the event occurred, there are many positives, negatives and surprises that have happened since. This year’s Grammys were considered highly controversial, from the winners of certain categories to the celebrities and red carpet looks that were showcased. These are the pros and cons of such a highly anticipated event, and the aftermath that followed.
One of the biggest shocks of the night was Beyonce’s album, “Cowboy Carter” winning Country Album of the Year. She was nominated alongside many favorites including, Chris Stapelton, Lainey Wilson, and Kacey Musgraves. Beyonce showed a clear expression of shock when hearing her name called as the winner. This marked a momentous occasion for Beyonce and other country singers as she became the first Black woman to ever win the Best Country Album of the Year.
While this win was exciting for some, the internet blew up with hate towards the outcome. On TikTok alone, there have been over 45 million posts relating to country music fans hating on Beyonce and the album. Along with these posts, there have been trending hashtags including #hatebeyoncecountryalbum and #countryhatesbeyonce. This backlash was trending for many days after the event and even stirred up rumors of Stapelton filing for an official objection to the win, which was later found false due to lack of evidence.
Fans will always comment on large events like the Grammys when their favorite artists don’t win, but this amount of backlash towards Beyonce shows that such a win was surprising for fans, artists, and even Beyonce herself.
Along with the win for Best Country Album of the Year, there is also immense backlash towards Beyonce winning Album of the Year over “Hit Me Hard and Soft” by Billie Eilish and “The Tortured Poets Department” by Taylor Swift. Fans justify their claims by showing that “Cowboy Carter” received far less listens and popularity than the other albums on the list. While “Cowboy Carter” only received one million streams on the first day of release, one of Swift’s songs “Fortnight” received almost 25 million streams on the first day.
This difference led fans to be outraged as the numbers alone showed that there were other albums listened to and loved far more than Beyonce’s newest album. Outside of numbers, there were also reactions from the other artists in this category. Billie Eilish can be seen holding back tears when she hears Beyonce’s name called over hers.
Since this loss, Eilish can be seen reposting TikToks on her account showing her sadness and mental state. Many fans and listeners have become concerned for her after watching the videos that express how sad and alone she is feeling after the Grammys night.
While fans were shocked and sad about some of the category wins, they were also surprised with some of the fashion choices on the red carpet that night. One of the biggest shocks was singer Kanye West and his wife Bianca Censori showing up unannounced and uninvited to the red carpet. While this alone was surprising, Censori’s outfit, or lack of an outfit, shocked the rest of the attending members and online viewers.
Censori showed up in a coat, but she took this off to reveal a see-through bodysuit. While distasteful and inappropriate for many watching at home and the event, West and Censori were immediately escorted out and removed from the event by police.
Since this scandalous appearance, there have been many rumors about the couple’s split and divorce discussions. Fans have also commented and posted about the couple’s discussion on the red carpet where it looks like Censori is saying no to taking her coat off. While many rumors have surfaced, nothing official has been said yet.
Along with fashion and the awards themselves, another large part of the Grammys is the performances. Chappell Roan performed her hit song “Pink Pony Club” where she got the entire crowd singing along with her. To have fans at concerts sing along is one thing, but to have an entire venue of some of today’s top artists singing along to a new artist’s hit song is another. This energy could be felt through the screen as fans watching over the TV and through social media commented as well.
Since this amazing performance, Roan has had rising numbers across the world for her song “Pink Pony Club”. She has even hit the top ten artists in the United Kingdom as of February 11. The song has also reached a new peak of number 18 on the Billboard’s Hot 100 list. This just shows that even new artists can thrive on a stage surrounded by the top musicians around the world.
While the Grammys night alone created a lot of positive and negative feelings, the two weeks since have been the best indicator of the way fans and artists are feeling about the night. With Chappell Roan rising in popularity, and mixed emotions on awards, the weeks after the Grammys have revealed fans’ true opinions on the stars and artists of 2025.
