The commercials are a big part of the Super Bowl each year. Incorporating celebrities, popular brands, and much more, some people care more about the commercials than the football. Each year companies spend millions on commercials and advertisements. From hilarious skits that feature popular celebrities to heart-felt ads that warm people’s hearts, Super Bowl commercials leave a lasting impression each and every year. This year many advertisements incorporated the use of AI and popular content creators from social media, catching the eye of younger generations.
Some top-rated from this year’s collection of commercials were Dunkin’ Donuts with Ben Affleck, Bill Belichick and a cameo by Jeremy Strong. The trio’s humor caught fans’ attention and made it a very memorable highlight. Hellman’s recreated an iconic scene from the movie, “When Harry Met Sally” featuring the original stars Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan, along with new star, Sydney Sweeney. The commercial added a modern twist to the classic iconic moment. Pringles delivered a comedic commercial featuring Chiefs head coach, Andy Reid, James Harden, and Nick Offerman. Considering the Pringles logo features a mustache, Pringles chose stars that had mustaches to then show those stars without their mustaches, which many viewers found quite funny. Uber Eats featured Matthew McConaughey characterizing many sports stars in a comedic way.
More on the heart-felt side, Nike showcased female athletes such as Caitlin Clark and A’JA Wilson. They delivered a powerful message for many female athletes expressing you’ll be told you can’t or that you’re not allowed but that you should do it anyways. Be bold, be brave, and win. Google used AI to highlight an older man using Google Assistant to remember specific details about his late wife. The commercial wholeheartedly focused on keeping memories alive. The Farmers Dog also pulled many heartstrings with a story about a little girl and her Labrador Retriever. The commercial highlighted them growing up together and followed their many adventures, with the tagline, “For a lifetime of love”.
Many of this year’s ads featured content creators reaching the younger demographic. Poppi, a prebiotic soda company, made a commercial featuring social media stars Alix Earle, Jake Shane, and Rob Rausch. “This commercial really caught my attention because it felt like my worlds were colliding with the variety of influencers that were shown,” says Spencer Margaret, a student at Millbrook. Alix Earle also was featured in a Carl’s Jr. ad promoting a “hangover” burger, that Super Bowl fans could enjoy free the next day at any Carl’s Jr. Another ad that caught lots of attention was TikTok star Addison Rae appearing in a Fenty Beauty commercial along with Rihanna, promoting Fenty Beauty’s new foundation line.
AI is taking over more and more every day and many commercials this year certainly showed that. Amazon’s Alexa ad showed what would happen if AI could predict what people needed before they asked. It was humorous and fascinating, focusing not only on how helpful AI can be but also on how invasive it can be. Microsoft highlighted AI’s position in influencing productivity. It focused on how AI is not for replacing jobs; it’s more about making work environments more efficient. Meta’s ad highlighted AI assistant versions of celebrities such as Tom Brady, Kendall Jenner, and Snoop Dogg assisting with daily tasks.
All in all Super Bowl commercials tell stories, bring humor and light to situations, and catch people’s attention no matter what age demographic. From AI to heartfelt ads people always find a commercial they love and without fail the commercials aim to bring people together in different ways. Even though a company may be promoting a new product or service, they use creativity to make it personal and draw people in. These commercials not only entertain but also leave a lasting impression and create memorable moments long after the game.
