On February 27, the Millbrook DECA chapter left to compete at the North Carolina DECA Career Development Conference (CDC) in Greensboro, NC. The trip included the roleplay competition, a family dinner, the opening ceremony, workshops, trips to the mall, a dance, and the award ceremony. There were over 7,000 students competing. On Thursday, all the principle events took place. On Friday, the rest of the events competed.
At family dinner, DECA provided Zaxbyś for the whole chapter! They had wings, chicken tenders, Texas toast, veggies, oreos, chips, and drinks. President Mehr Kapoor said, “My favorite part of the trip is probably family dinner! It was really cute to see everyone together, having fun and eating together in one place. It really felt like a family!” On the night of February 27, there was a dance. The theme was “Hot Wheels”, and everyone agreed that chaperone Nashonda Cooke had the best dance moves.
There were seven workshops, each with a different experience. On Thursday, February 27, there was Success In Sales, AI For Good- Humanizing Artificial Intelligence, and Unlocking Efficiency: How to Work Smarter, Not Harder. On Friday, February 28, there was Building Mental Toughness and Resilience, So, you want to be an Entrepreneur?, Unlock a Career that Pays to Protect, and Hospitality, Tourism & Esports: Do What you Love. DECA member Trung Le participated in the Building Mental Toughness and Resilience. Le said, “I enjoyed the workshop. It was very informative. I learned how to control my emotions. I also learned how to get rid of distractions.”
The chapter had four medalists! Logan Schneeberg, Maxwell Tenace, Joy Robinson, and Caley Rountree all placed in their events. Rountree and Tenace both competed in Principles of Entrepreneurship. This was Tenace’s first year in the club. He shared his excitement saying, “It felt great to place at states, especially with the large amount of competition there. There were much more people at the CDC than the regional competition, with a more competitive atmosphere. I had so much fun!” This was Rountree’s second year at the club. She said, “It felt great! My [favorite] part of the trip was the dance.”
The Chapter arrived at Millbrook on Saturday afternoon. Kapoor said, “My experience as president this year is different from last year when I was a member, as this year I was involved in a lot more of the organization and planning. Making sure everyone was safe, accounted for, and having fun were all my responsibilities now which was very different from last year!”
