The 97th Oscars took place on Sunday,

March 2, 2025. The Oscars honors films and actors from the past year, awarding them for their outstanding performances and work. A main part of the night is the red carpet. Actors and actresses showcase glamorous and show-stopping looks that express them and their roles in films. The Oscars is a timeless awards show, meaning the looks are more classy. Lots of diamonds, bows, and pearls made their feature this year on stunning gowns, while the men wore classic suits with a few touches of eye-catching details. Let’s dive into some of the many memorable looks from the night.
When you think classy you think light pinks, creams, whites, and very simple and quiet colors. Actors and actresses certainly brought that this year wearing stunning looks that were simple and sophisticated. “Wicked” actress, Ariana Grande, wore a Schiaparelli gown that was sparkling with light pink and cream, encapsulating the look of a fairy. Actress, Monica Barbaro, from “A Complete Unknown” wore a stunning Dior gown. The top was simple with diamonds across, and the bottom flowed out into a beautiful baby pink gown. “My favorite looks are always the more classic and simple looks. I just love seeing all the stars,” says Lindsay Settlemyre, a junior at Millbrook High School. Still simple but flashy look was worn by actress Emma Stone. She wore a glassy sequin Louis Vuitton dress that gave a more porcelain look. Selena Gomez wore a Sophia Loren inspired blush pink Ralph Lauren gown, that was simple but still made a statement.
Many designers take simple gowns and add gorgeous details to make them look more sophisticated, allowing them to differ from other gowns. Lupita Nyong’o wore a beautiful pure white Chanel dress that had diamonds, pearls, and a bow on the front. The theme of bows seemed to be big this year as Elle Fanning wore a Givenchy white gown with a black bow on the front, which really tied the look together. Omar Apollo wore a classic black suit by Valentino but it was scaled up by being paired with a scarf in place of your typical bowtie. Jeff Goldblum added a pop of color to the carpet with his colorful floral button up under his cream suit jacket, and a little flower detailing in his coat pocket.
On the more complex side, Cynthia Erivo wore an eye-catching OZ inspired dark green gown. The “White Lotus” actress, Lalisa Manobal wore a Mark Gong look that took the traditional tuxedo jacket and shirt to new lengths. Doja Cat wore an animal print gown by Balmain that evoked feminine power.
Many of the men took the classic tuxedo up a notch. Colman Domingo, from “Sing Sing”, wore a red suit jacket with black detailing. Andrew Garfield wore a Gucci suit that was a beautiful mix of different shades of brown. Timothee Chalamet wore a tux, but instead of the traditional black he wore a pop of color on the carpet with it being bright yellow. Some kept it classy with small details that made them stand out. Samuel L. Jackson wore a classic black tux by Giorgio Armani that had black sparkling detail down the center of the suit. Kieran Culkin wore a black suit, but instead of the usual material, his suit was a more sheer and silky black.
Some brighter, more colorful looks were showcased on Sunday as well. Gal Gadot from “No Other Land”, wore a beautiful bright red Prada gown. Coco Gauff wore a simple pale yellow Miu Miu dress with sparkling diamond details. Michelle Yeoh wore a gorgeous deep blue Balenciaga gown that was very eye-catching. Mark Ivanir wore a velvet turquoise tux with small orange detailing. Jon M. Chu wore a dark forest green suit that sparkled with little details of glitter.
Many couples walked the carpet together, as they paired well, complementing colors and details from their looks. Susan Downey and Robert Downey Jr. walked together. Susan Downey wore a deep red sparkling gown and Robert Downey Jr. wore a classic black tux with a deep red pin, complementing his wife’s dress. Conan O’Brien and Liza Powel O’Brien paired well with each other as Conan O’Brien wore a simple black tux allowing his wife, Liza Powel O’Brien, mint green gown to stand out, and have its moment. Another pairing was Dennis Quaid and his wife Laura Savoie Quaid, who stuck to the simplicity of a black tux and a black gown. They look simply stunning and sophisticated.
The Oscars are all about the awards, but the red carpet adds a moment for the stars to shine individually and express themselves through their looks. This year provided unforgettable glamour from bright colors and elaborate details, to timeless simple and sophisticated looks. All of the actors and actresses shine in a unique way and showcase their hard work and dedication to their films. The looks of the night not only showed off the skill of many amazing designers but also gave a glimpse into the personalities and characters of the stars wearing them. Overall, the 2025 Oscars were a true celebration of fashion, artistry, and uniqueness that each star brings to the film industry.
