Following spring break, many students looked forward to the annual prom, not to mention the interesting turn of events that occurred this year during the event. While last year’s theme had been Once Upon A Time, the theme for this year was La La Land, City of Stars. Senior Araina Camacho says, “I think it was very interesting. I’ve never heard of La La Land before, but I thought that it looked very pretty when all the decorations were up.” As usual, if students wanted to bring a guest outside of Millbrook, they would have to fill out a guest form. Then, it would be reviewed and approved by Mrs. Genesky. Once they were given the confirmation email from Mrs. Genesky, students could purchase a ticket for themselves and their guests. As per the theme of this year, many students arrived in their glittering gowns and finest suits, ready to strut the runway of prom. But what went behind the planning of this year’s prom?
Now, prom is the biggest event for the junior Class Council. A lot of planning occurs between the class council members and Mrs. Genesky to make it a smashing success. It takes months of preparation, including the initial brainstorming about props, color schemes, decorations, and so on, starting in January. Originally, the theme was centered around Hollywood and the Oscars. However, according to Mrs. Genesky, she said that “we veered more towards colors and concepts from the movie La-La Land, which is set in Hollywood.” After the initial planning phase was complete, the members of the junior Class Council were quite busy in the weeks leading up to prom. From social media posts to designing the decorations in the ballroom at North Ridge Country Club, it’s safe to say that the class council members had their hands full.
All that hard work paid off, resulting in a charming yet memorable event for 2025, with a unique twist on a traditional ‘Hollywood’ prom. On that note, we should give a round of applause for the contributions from the junior Class Council and Mrs. Genesky that made this event possible. Thank you for another fantastic prom!
