Have you ever wanted to knit an article of clothing? The Knitting Club meets every other Thursday in room 115 from 2:30 to 3:15. It is a brand new club this year and welcomes all students who love to knit! It does not matter what level members are on with knitting. The club consists of slow and fast learners, as well as students with more experience than others. This after school activity offers a comfortable and relaxed environment for anyone, regardless of their knitting abilities. The experienced knitters already in the club provide for a perfect learning experience for any new knitters. Helpful hints and tips are occasionally given from fellow members to the newer members once they have begun to knit.

Sophomore Alexandra Butler, the president of the Knitting Club, says, “I founded the Knitting Club, and I feel like it is unique because it’s hands on learning in a fun and comfortable environment in which members feel a sense of accomplishment every time they finish a knitted project.” The main activity of this after school activity is most clearly  knitting. Members simply knit, socialize, and have a good time. They also learn more about knitting techniques and build stronger bonds with other members. Freshman Brooke Finnessy says, “Alexandra is an inspirational and encouraging leader. Knitting is actually really fun and easy. She taught us how to knit hats properly.”

However, the Knitting Club does not just knit for fun. They are also knitting for a good cause. Even as a brand new club this year, members of the Knitting Club plan to knit hats for the Heavenly Hugs Hat Ministries located within a local church. From there, the hats knitted by members of the club will be given to cancer patients who have lost their hair from chemotherapy. Members are ecstatic about knitting for a great cause! This after school activity is always looking for new members that are interested in knitting and engaging in a fun service project!
