Keeping Up With The Emmys
September 25, 2016
From walking down the red carpet all the way to the after party, the Emmys were one of the best award shows this year. There were many surprises during the awards, many controversial moments, and multiple records broken throughout this night of honoring the talented individuals who represent the best of television. Host Jimmy Kimmel worked alongside countless stars made the show one of the most memorable nights for many.
From the beginning of the show, Kimmel made it apparent that the night would be one like no other with an opening sequence involving some of the best and brightest in TV today. From Modern Family’s Ty Burrell to The Late Late Show with James Corden, Kimmel included actors from all categories of the night. Later in the awards, Kimmel, while trying to produce some laughs, may have unnecessarily crossed a line by joking about diversity as well as the hit tv show The People Vs. OJ. Calling out Cuba Gooding ,Jr., who plays OJ saying, “You wouldn’t be here without him right… I now believe Cuba might have done it.” When speaking of diversity, Kimmel said, “This year’s nominees are the most diverse ever, and here in Hollywood the only thing we like more than diversity is congratulating ourselves on how much we value diversity.” Kimmel joked about other subjects like the presidential election and was even joined by Matt Damon who poked fun at Kimmel for losing an Emmy to John Oliver. As one of the best moments of the night, Damon and Kimmel kept their on screen rivalry and gave the audience a moment of enjoyment during the ceremony.
The Emmy Awards also had a few records broken by one of the best known shows on television. The show Game Of Thrones won numerous awards, including Outstanding Drama Series, bringing their lifetime record to 38. The show pushed the longest running comedy, Frasier, down to the second most lifetime Emmy awards. Game Of Thrones also became the most honored drama series during the two Creative Arts Emmy Awards held on September 10th and 11th. As one of the top shows on television, make sure to check out Game Of Thrones on Netflix now, and season seven premiering in early 2017.
