How To
Create The Best Halloween Costume
October 19, 2016
As soon as you walk into Walmart, you see every Halloween costume imaginable, but how can you choose the best one for you? Some people suggest going online to find the costume that is perfect for you, and there are others who say to visit as many Spirit stores as possible. The best Halloween costume for you is out there! In order to find your disguise, you have to find out more about yourself.
The first thing you need to do is find out what your costume preference is. Do you like group costumes or solos? Do you like the more classic monsters look, or do you want to be the trend starter? Do you want to be hottest person in the room, or do you want to just have fun with it? All of these things and more go into what costume is perfect for you this Halloween. If you are having trouble with this decision, think about what you have worn on past Halloweens. When asked what she usually wears, junior Adanna Iloabachie says, “I usually wear this pig costume that I get at party city… I usually wear it every single year.” Think about what your preferences are. It all ties into your costume decision.
Step two is to hop online and check out the costumes from spirithalloween.com to see what is trending this year. Make sure to watch the prices. Usually the best prices are closer you get to Halloween. Once you look at the trending costumes, take some of the features from each one you like and try finding a way to put them together. Next, go check out what you have in your closet to see what can be made into a costume. This will help make sure that the your trendy costume is not identical to others who had the same idea. Make sure not to choose things that you wear often and do not want to tear or mess up. It is better to choose older clothes that you do not mind messing with.
Once you have that, take a good pair of scissors and start cutting (if you need to). A key tip is making sure you use layers to the best of your ability. Layering the clothes will help to make your costume more fun and individualized. If your costume idea requires something you do not have in your wardrobe or you want accessories that will push your outfit over the edge, checkout the local Goodwill and see what they have. “Halloween costumes are a chance to express yourself, and what better way than making it your own. Goodwill and thrift shops provide so many things to make your own costumes, even popular ones, that make it unique without having to pay $50,” says senior Melissa Depierro. After checking Goodwill for outfits, go down to a superstore and check out the clearance and clothing sections to make it your own. If you feel confident in your makeup skills, stop in the makeup department and get some crazy colors and hair gel. You can come up with an original design or Youtube some monster makeup tutorials.
The last step is to check out what the weather will be on Halloween. If you find it to be a little too cold for comfort, maybe you can add a jacket or scarf to top off the costume. If it is a little warmer than what you wanted, try getting rid of a layer in your costume. Now you have the perfect costume for any adventure that may come your way this Halloween!
