Service Club’s exceptional dedication to serving
March 14, 2017
The Service Club was created in 1978. This honorary club is exclusive and only recognizes those who go above and beyond in service to Millbrook High School. Each year in March, students and staff are given the opportunity to help select the year’s Service Club members. This year, Service Club nominations are due to Mrs. Putnam in room 1411 by this Friday, March 17. The significance of the Service Club is to recognize upperclass students and faculty for their exceptional service and devotion to Millbrook as a whole.
While being considered for Service Club, students and staff are analyzed for hard work, dedication, and outstanding service to at least one particular aspect of Millbrook. Whether the person is being selected for service in one area or multiple, it is expected that Service Club Members have dedicated their time and have shown significant time beyond the typical expectation. To be nominated for Service Club, an individual must be hardworking, show effort and passion, be a leader, and devote an extensive amount of time and service to our school. Senior Alexis Stone, a member of the Service Club, said, “These students don’t seek recognition, only the improvement of the Wildcat community.”
The current members of the Service Club include 20 faculty or staff members, 1 community member, and 9 students. The teachers inducted are Paula Abbott, Emily Belcher, Jennifer Broadwell, Jessica Collins, Kate Cumings, Jill Drabot, Chris East, Lisa Ellstrom, Emily Fonke, Megan Fritz, Lauren Genesky, Clarence Inscore, Austin James, Bethre Keefer, Danny Kotzian, Bruce Mamel, Scott McInnes, Mary Beth Putnam, Deborah Robinson, and Scott Saby. The current students in the Service Club include Thomas Armstrong, Maddie Day, David Flowers, Shaun Gillie, Erika Krahe, Alex LaRocca, Alexis Stone, Jessica Tomlinson, and Jordin Williams. Last year was the first year that a community member was inducted. The first ever inductee in this category was Mrs. Mindy McGinnis.
After being inducted, Service Club members met to discuss the best ways to maintain being role models in the school, as well as plan to select their nominations for the next year. Senior Alex LaRocca, a member of the Service Club, said, “Service Club has definitely been what I consider to be my greatest accomplishment at Millbrook.”
The prestige and honor of this club is truly extraordinary, and so are its members. Nominations are due Friday, so if you have a worthy person who deserves this honor, fill out the appropriate form. These are available on the school website and in the front office. Then wait to see if your nominee will be chosen for induction at the Service Club assembly on April 26.
