Trump mysteriously terminates FBI Director Comey
May 9, 2017
In yet another twist in the harrowing Trump presidency drama, the President has fired FBI Director James Comey. In Trump’s letter to the director, he says he is taking to recommendation by the Attorney General, Deputy Attorney General, and the Department of Justice. He also takes special care to thank the director for informing him three times that he was not under investigation. The termination removes Director Comey from the position in only his third year of a ten year term. This decision is particularly interesting because during the investigation of Hillary Clinton’s email scandal, the director publicly spoke out saying her actions were careless. Another mysterious aspect of the removal of the director is traditionally the Deputy Director, Andrew McCabe, would take over, but President Trump has said they will be looking for a new director. Though the President is allowed to remove the FBI Director for any reason, there has been response from all political positions, both positive and negative. What is ahead for the Trump administration and the FBI, only time will tell.
