Melo traded to OKC
September 23, 2017
NBA star Carmelo Anthony, or Melo, has been traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder, or OKC, earlier this afternoon. In exchange for Anthony, the New York Knicks received Doug McDermott, Enes Kanter, and a 2018 second-round pick.
The Knicks have been open to trading Carmelo Anthony for almost a year now, but were unable to due to the no-trade clause in his contract. Melo decided to waive his no trade clause only if he was traded to the following teams: the Houston Rockets, Cleveland Cavaliers, or the Oklahoma City Thunder. After trade talks with the Houston Rockets were unsuccessful, OKC general manager Sam Presti, pounced on the opportunity to acquire Melo, teaming him up with former Indiana Pacer Paul George and the reigning league MVP, Russell Westbrook.
OKC appears to be reloading after losing former MVP, Kevin Durant, last offseason, while the New York Knicks are attempting to rebuild with young players, with twenty-two year-old Kristaps Porzingis as the future face of the franchise.
