Curry speaks out against Trump
September 25, 2017
On September 23 at 8:45am, President Trump withdrew his White House invitation from basketball star Steph Curry for speaking in opposition of him. This news comes almost directly after the President encouraged the NFL to fire players who decide to kneel for the national anthem. Curry spoke out saying that he strongly disagreed with the President’s views on this topic. Many find this Trump’s statement involving the NFL players to be hypocritical, especially after he described white supremacists at the Charlottesville protest as very fine people. Many have spoken out against the President after this statement, including Steph Curry’s rival, Lebron James. James expressed that a White House invitation would have been an honor before President Trump took the office.
In addition to the Golden State Warriors denying an invite to the White House, the University of North Carolina men’s basketball team turned down the offer as well. However, they state that this is due to scheduling, and not due to the previous conflict the President had with Curry. Whether this is true or not, Steph Curry has managed to utilize his platform and has joined NFL star Colin Kaepernick in the conversation involving racial equality.
