In late August, four hurricanes headed towards North and South America. Hurricane Harvey, Irma, and Jose caused mass destruction in the Caribbean and Florida and Texas in the United States. After ripping through Puerto Rico as a category four, Hurricane Maria is headed straight for North Carolina! Although it has weakened to a tropical storm, North Carolina may still experience rough winds in some areas. It is expected to hit the shores late Tuesday night and well into Wednesday. Outer Banks residents have already evacuated as flooding is likely to happen.

The north side of Puerto Rico had been hit by Hurricane Irma with winds up to one hundred eighty miles per hour weeks before Maria. Hurricane Maria hit the entire country at a diagonal with intense winds and mass amounts of water that left all of Puerto Rico without power; which is not expected to come back until three to four months. Many residents have not been able to be contacted, and the death count is at ten as of now. Officials are describing this year as an apocalyptic hurricane season, and actions must be taken to make sure everyone is safe and survives these disasters.
