Apple’s latest innovation: the iPhone X
October 18, 2017
Available for preorder on October 27, Apple’s newest iPhone, the iPhone X, will revolutionize the next generation of iPhones. It will be available in stores on November 3. The front of the phone is made of water and dust proof glass, while the body is made of surgical-grade stainless steel. Instead of the classic home button, there is a simple swipe up to bring users to the home screen. There is no touch ID, and because of this, Apple has implemented the all new face recognition to unlock the phone. It uses infrared camera technology, which enables face recognition in the dark, and the high tech battery lasts up to two hours longer than previous iPhone batteries. Smaller than the iPhone 8 Plus, but larger than the iPhone 8, this brand new style of phone is the perfect size for users to comfortably operate.
The face recognition uses the TrueDepth camera system which has sensors and is extremely easy to set up. It is supposedly so secure that you can use it for Apple Pay to check out with a simple glance. There has been a lot of controversy over the privacy of this feature. Some think that it is creepy for Apple to require facial recognition to get into a phone, while to others it does not make a difference from the touch ID Apple had previously required. However, there is always the option of unlocking the phone with the normal passcode option. Senior Connor Root said, “My thoughts on the face ID is that it is completely fine and will not serve as an issue for me.”
Very high quality lighting effects have been added to the phone’s camera, called Portrait Lighting. While this feature will be implemented into the iPhone 8 Plus as well, it is still a primary and new iPhone feature that many users will enjoy. The different effect options include natural light, contour light, studio light, stage light, and stage light mono. The camera has a 12 MP sensor, a new color filter, deeper pixels, and a new telephoto camera with OIS.
The A11 Neural Engine the iPhone X operates on is up to 70 percent faster than the A10 (used in previous iPhones), and makes it the highest quality any phone has ever seen. With the insanely strong camera settings and performance cores being up to 25 percent faster than what the A10 had to offer, it will truly change everything. However, many people will be holding onto their wallets because of the priciness of the phone: $999 to $1,149 depending on storage.
