When asked to describe junior Sterling Adams, Mr. Nolan said, “She has a sort of jovial buoyancy that can change the vibe of a room, but also makes it easier to dismiss her as super friendly but vapid. The reality is though that under her effervescent facade lies a calculating intellect and a shrewd judge of human behavior.” Sterling is the definition of an involved student! While staying busy with many clubs and sports, she also takes time to volunteer and work outside of school. This year, Sterling serves as the Student Body Vice President, Vice President of Best Buds, the Publicity Chair of Latin Honor Society, and as an FCA Leader. She is also involved in Mu Alpha Theta, DECA, Young Life, Varsity Tennis, Winter Track, Gymnastics, and Soccer. Sterling walks down the hallways with a big smile on her face every day and loves the community of people at Millbrook.

 Sterling has been a part of Millbrook Executive Board since the summer before her freshman year. Each year she served as a member, but this year she has the honor as serving as the Student Body Vice President. With this position, she aids the planning and execution of various events during and after school. This year, she is the head of our Dance, Movie Night, Mr. Millbrook Selections, Homecoming Court Selections, Pep Rally, and Outstanding Seniors Committees. With always having so much on her plate, Sterling stays organized and determined during the school year.

 Sterling is also the Vice President of Best Buddies. Best Buddies, or Best Buds for short, is an all-inclusive club that strives to involve students with special needs into Millbrook through activities, crafts, and field trips. Sterling is in charge of leading meetings, planning events, and getting more students to participate in the club. After joining Best Buds her freshman year, she grew interest in helping others, specifically those with special needs. By her sophomore year, she planned multiple note drives which consisted of, hosting, collecting, and delivering hand-made, personally addressed cards to the students in our special education program here at Millbrook. Now as a junior, she has started a non-profit organization recognized by North Carolina called Letters for Love. This organization strives to spread love amongst children with special needs.

 Along with MEB and Best Buds, Sterling participates in many sports. She has been on Varsity Tennis since her freshman year, JV Soccer, Gymnastics, and Winter Track. Doing 4 sports in a 3 sport season shows how Sterling loves to keep busy! During her time on these teams, she has been awarded the “Most Spirited Award” for tennis two years in a row as well as the “Team First Award” for soccer. Senior Katie Day describes Sterling as, “always being in a good mood and always encouraging the team. She helps to brighten the mood and helps us all to have fun during tennis season.”

 As if Sterling does not do enough, she is also a hostess at Winston’s Grille and tries to work as much as she can. She has also run in Ella’s Race for the past three years coming in at 3rd, 2nd, and 1st place respectively. Sterling volunteers every Sunday at Elevation Church, and every summer she volunteers as a counselor at St. Mary’s Summer Tennis Camp. She also takes the time to tutor students through Latin Honor Society for the past two years and volunteers at additional organizations including Raleigh Rescue Mission and Meals on Wheels. Along with that, she was crowned the Junior Class Homecoming Queen. Sterling is a part of almost every aspect in the school, and for these reasons, she is truly a Spectacular Student.
