President Trump declares State of Emergency
February 17, 2019
President Trump has declared a National State of Emergency following the government not being able to come to a compromise once again. This comes just weeks after the United States’ longest shutdown in history, at 35 days long. When the shutdown ended the 15 was the deadline set in place for the compromise to be made. With this action, President Trump now has complete control over federal funding and can reroute billions of dollars in order to build the wall. He has allocated $1.38 billion for 55 miles of border barriers. Many Senators, republicans and democrats alike, have looked down on this decision saying that they do not believe this matter should be declared a national emergency. All that we can do now is wait and see, but it appears as if the United States and Mexico will be getting a border wall; following through with one of President Trump’s’ main campaign promises.
