In Honolulu, Hawaii the Board of Water Supply (BWS) has shut down its supply of water in Oahu. It was closed due to contamination of the Navy well near Pearl Harbor. The deputy commander of the US Pacific Fleet. Rear Adm. Blake Converse confirmed the leak was petroleum.

The military offered all service members and civilian employees living near the base an opportunity for alternative housing. The concern started when tenants of the affected areas started feeling sick, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and headaches. After this occurred, the Navy decreased half of the water pumping to citizens in the local area. Although the BWS was not immediately informed that the well was shut off, in response to finding out they cut the water supply to 50%. Eventually, in an attempt to stop the spread of petroleum to other parts of the area, the water supply was fully shut down.

The Navy is working to stop the leak and restore clean water supply to over 100,000 citizens in Honolulu.  Navy officials are filling potable bottles of clean water for residents.
