According to a leaked draft published by Politico on Monday, the Supreme Court is set to overturn the precedent setting court case, Roe V. Wade. In 1973, Roe V. Wade determined that under the fourteenth amendment, abortion is protected as a right under law. This being overturned would not necessarily make abortion illegal, it would rever the power to decide regulations up to the states instead of the federal government. 

  Chief Justice John Roberts confirmed that the leak was valid and says the court is launching an investigation into who leaked the document. He pushed back against the speculation that the document will represent the final decision of the court. 

  The public response has been extreme with protests on both sides happening all over the country. The biggest protest is still taking place in Washington DC outside of the Supreme Court building. On Tuesday, President Joe Biden publicly opposed the potential overturning of Roe v. Wade by saying: “It’s really quite a radical decision. It’s a fundamental shift in American jurisprudence.” According to a prediction by MSNBC, twenty-seven states are certain or likely to ban abortion if Roe V. Wade is overturned.
