Tracking Hurricane Ian
September 29, 2022
In the past few days, Hurricane Ian has swept across Cuba causing power outages, destruction of buildings, and flooded streets across the island. Winds reached 125 miles per hour with drastic rainfall.
The storm has now reached landfall in Florida, and is expected to cause a huge storm surge. Over two million people were asked to evacuate the state because of what destruction is yet to come. Director Kevin Guthrie of Florida’s Emergency Management Division said, “ There will be a time when it will not be safe to travel the road.” Police and fire responses have been suspended so it will be hard for people to reach out for help when needed.
Hurricane Ian has become a category 4 hurricane and is causing floods and some tornadoes in the coastal Florida area. Since Cuba, winds have increased to 155 miles per hour and there have been over a million power outages in the state.
After landfall in Florida, reporters predict the storm will die down and be at a tropical storm state. Reporters also say that the hurricane will continue upwards through Georgia, South Carolina and possibly North Carolina, causing heavy rainfall through the states.
