Planet Fitness helped high schoolers stay active this summer with a free summer gym membership. This included their free weights, barbells and the other various machines which other members would have access to. The High School Summer Pass allowed teens 14 to 19 to work out for free through August 31, 2022. Many students utilized this opportunity throughout the summer and saw many benefits.

Junior Gabe Del Rosario on the Millbrook Wrestling team now loves working out and going to the gym. Before using the High School Summer Gym Pass, Gabe described the gym as a waste of time, but Gabe now says, “many of my friends and I took full advantage of this pass and went as much as possible. We are now fond of the gym environment.”

Going to the gym and working out increases muscle strength, endurance, and mass. Junior Quynh Vuong says “ Planet fitness allowing students to workout for free was a blessing, it allowed me to lose weight and gain more muscle.” This summer, 3.5 million teens took advantage of this great opportunity and worked out for free.

Planet Fitness was very genuine to all the communities around the country, despite the pandemic which closed all gyms. Junior Vince Barefoot, a very experienced weightlifter and a long snapper on the Millbrook Football Varsity team,”Planet Fitness allowed me access to more equipment and gave me a great way to connect with my friends”.

It is proven that going to the gym improves your mental health and well being. This summer, 80% of teens felt happier or more confident after using their summer pass for planet fitness. Coach Cortright, Millbrooks defensive coordinator and weight training teacher expresses that “Exercise is good for you because it betters brain function betters brain function, provides a good heart and decreases chances of type 2 diabetes, stroke and high blood pressure”. Because of how this program impacted teens this summer I hope Planet Fitness has this pass again next summer. I believe even more students will come after seeing the results of their peers.
