Mrs.Bartney: Millbrook’s New Assistant Principal
October 24, 2022
Millbrook High School is undergoing a big and exciting change this year, we are going to be welcoming Mrs. Bartney as our new assistant principal!
Mrs. Bartney has been a teacher for 25 years, with this being her tenth year as a teacher at Millbrook, but it is sadly going to be cut short as she transitions to the assistant principal position. Mrs. Bartney says about the change, “After teaching for over 25 years in the public school system, I would have never thought that I would be changing positions within the school, however being able to impact students’ lives on a larger scale excites me.”
During her time at Millbrook, Mrs. Bartney has taught chemistry at the academic, honors, AP, and IB levels, as well as forensic science. Aside from her role as a teacher, throughout her years at Millbrook, Mrs. Bartney has been incredibly involved in the school community. Mrs. Bartney is the advisor of the National Achievers Society, leads Tutor Cats which is a tutoring service in association with the National Achievers Society, is the newcomers camp coordinator, beginning teacher mentor, mentor coordinator, SAT Weekend School Based Coordinator, and was an administrative Intern for the 2021-22 school year. Mrs. Bartney was also crowned Millbrook’s “Teacher of the Year” last school year.
As a teacher, Mrs. Bartney strives to create a community that truly educates her students. While teaching in the classroom, she teaches with a sense of passion and you can tell that she loves what she does. “I will definitely miss the day-to-day interactions that I had with students in my chemistry classes.” Mrs. Bartney says.
Mrs. Bartney always goes above and beyond in her role as a teacher and is always happy to do whatever she can to help and provide any sort of additional support to students and their families. She is in students’ lives as more than a teacher, but a friend and somebody they can look up to. Through the years, she has impacted students in many ways by making her classroom a safe and inclusive space where they can be heard and understood. You can tell that she genuinely cares about her students as if they were her own kids. Sophomore Alexandra Herring, one of Mrs. Bartney’s current honors chemistry students says, “Though I have only had Ms. Bartney for a short amount of time, her positive influence on students and enthusiasm towards teaching has not gone unnoticed.”
The student body at Millbrook looks forward to Mrs. Bartney being our new assistant principal and the changes that come along with it. Though her current students will miss her a lot, we are all incredibly excited and happy for her and this new step in her life. Herring adds, “Without a doubt, there could not be a more perfect person for this role, and I am eager to see the changes Ms. Bartney will bring to the school through this new position.”
Congratulations Mrs. Bartney!
