As fall begins, various artists are in the works of new albums. But as of late, Solange Knowles and Lady Gaga have both been in the headlines for their newly released albums. Solange’s album, A Seat at the Table, which was released late last month, has been one of the most talked about albums in the month October all over social media. Joanne, Lady Gaga’s newest album, expresses triumph and perseverance.

Lady Gaga released her fifth studio album, Joanne on October 21, 2016. The artist released the record under Interscope and Streamline Records. Joanne is named after Lady Gaga’s late aunt who was a great influence on many lyrical aspects of her album. This record is known to be the most mature albums Lady Gaga has put out. In her album, she has songs that touch on many societal issues that have been occurring more often for the past couple of years.

Solange Knowles released her third studio on September 30, 2016. She released her record under her label Saint Records and in conjunction with Columbia Records. Solange Knowles has not written an album in five years. Her newly released album,  A Seat at the Table provides the insight of the struggles of a black woman. She also opens up about her own past relationships and the relationship her parents once had. In addition to the album itself, she also put out videos for two songs featured on her album, “Cranes In the Sky” and “Don’t Touch My Hair.”

Both of these artists have inspired people over the years with their music, but some say that these albums are their best yet. Junior Kiya Peele expressed her opinion on Solange’s new album: “It is a very empowering album, especially for young black women and teenagers.” With both artists using their lyrics to touch on societal issues, their albums can help raise awareness on issues of sexual harassment, self-worth, and racism while also having a new song for you to dance to.
