It’s trumped up

Millions of people have traveled from all over the country to come watch the businessman turned politician Donald Trump. His outrageous speeches and no filter talk have been drawing crowds and making other politicians cringe.

Donald Trump has been in the news quite a lot, and you would be hard pressed to find someone who has not heard of him. Critics are calling his approach “bull-in-a-china-shop politics.” People find him funny and think that he is outrageous and offensive, but in the end, everybody is watching him and his tornado-like campaign trail. Many voters find him merely funny, but his campaign is actually disastrous.

His platform revolves around two points:

Policy on Second Amendment Rights

Trump strongly advocates for gun control with little to no restrictions. It is stated in the platform section of his website that most Americans need to have concealed carry licenses and that the average citizen should help in aiding law enforcement efforts in helping catch criminals stating, “Law enforcement is great, they do a tremendous job, but they can’t be everywhere all of the time. Our personal protection is ultimately up to us. That’s why I’m a gun owner, that’s why I have a concealed carry permit, and that’s why tens of millions of Americans have concealed carry permits as well. It’s just common sense. To make America great again, we’re going to go after criminals and put the law back on the side of the law-abiding.” I believe according to U.S federal law, even when aiding law enforcement, shooting at someone with intent to injure or maim them is illegal. Stand your ground laws are only upheld in the most dire of situations and only if bodily harm will happen otherwise.

Policy on Immigration Reform

Trump believes that a nation without borders is not a nation and that a wall should be built on the southern border of the United States. However, he declined to speak about a wall on the northern border. His website says that Mexico should be forced to pay for the wall being built, and if they refuse to comply, we should increase visa expenses, impose strict restrictions on all visa applications, decrease the number of available visas,  and not allow CEOs or business travelers to come to the US from Mexico. When it comes to building this ‘Great wall of America,’ not just Mexico would be forced to pay. China, as well, would  be forced to pay new and increased tariffs. Donald Trump plans to fund this project not by raising taxes but by lowering them and forcing other countries to pay America large and new sums while simultaneously forcing them to agree to receive nothing in return. With ideas such as this, that verge on the line of idiocy and ludacris, his business process is shaky at best, with his business filing for bankruptcy four times which Carly Fiorina pointed out in CNN’s GOP debate.

His stance on global warming is best exemplified by his quote, “This very expensive GLOBAL WARMING bulls*** has got to stop. Our planet is freezing, record low temps and our GW scientists are stuck in ice.” His website uses infantile language, and his arguments use extremely biased and unreliable sources as well as being choppy and inconclusive a bit like his campaign in general. If Donald Trump is elected, the Trump presidency will have disastrous consequences for America. Trump is a businessman; he has never held public office or been in politics.  Having a candidate outside of the usual political scene run in this race is all well and good, but only if that candidate is not a joke.
