On Monday May 22 around 10:00 pm, a driver ran his truck into the borders surrounding the White House. The driver was later identified as 19-year-old Sai Varshith Kandula. Kandula has been arrested on multiple charges including threats to harm both the President and Vice President. After crashing his truck, the secret service detained Kandula, and they seized his Nazi flag that was wrapped around the outside of the truck.

After being detained, Kandula was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, reckless operation of a vehicle and trespassing. When the secret service arrived, Kandula was making threats towards the President and Vice President, but was quickly taken away from the scene.

Kandula drove a rented Uhaul truck into the barriers on the north side of Lafayette square. Anthony Guglielmi, Secret Service chief of communications, made a statement on the crash saying, “There were no injuries to any Secret Service personnel and the cause and manner of the crash remain under investigation.” Guglielmi later posted an update through Twitter that the truck was marked safe by the Washington D.C. police.

Authorities still have not made a statement on the flag or what will happen to Kandula, but they continue to examine what happened last night.
