What does the Future of Fortnite Look Like?

Fortnite brought back its OG map starting from Chapter 1 Season 5 on November 3rd and will end with Chapter 1 Season X on December 2nd.

Millions of players flocked back after Fortnite released their old map. Fortnite, arguably the biggest videogame of all time, made a massive change adding back the map from Chapter 1: Season 5. Along with the map, Fortnite added dozens of items back including the Chugjug, Tactical Shotgun, and Hunting Rifle just to name a few. The map brings back childhood memories and nostalgia for millions of its players, from streamers to casual players.

With the flood of memories and players coming back, it has rekindled friendships. Senior Jojo Campbell has loved his return to Fortnite stating, “It’s great being able to go to all of the old locations I used to go with my friends. Some of them I haven’t spoken to in a couple of years. All my friends are back on Fortnite and we reminisce about the memories we made.”

The players have begged for this old map to return, and Epic Games listened. In response to the change, the player base skyrocketed to an all-time high of 44.7 million on November 4th alone. The number of players has only increased over the last two weeks. The Fortnite: OG season will end with Season X (10) on December 2. Season X was (coincidentally?) also called “Worlds Collide,” and with the OG map ending in Season X, a massive event is likely to unfold.

Many fans are excited about the event but are hoping the OG map can remain in some fashion. Senior Abby Fulk said, “I surely hope they keep the old map. Until recently, I had not played in over two years, but the old map brought back the fun memories of sneaking onto my brother’s account and playing. I want to be able to create more of those memories past December 2.”

Fulk, like millions of others, wants a more simple and nostalgic feel to the game. Will Fortnite use the genius marketing strategy to try something new or return the old game for good? I guess we will have to wait until the worlds collide on December 2.
