Millbrook senior Cecilia Case has become an influential part of the 2024 class. From her involvement in clubs, to her participation in the International Baccalaureate programme, to being an outstanding senior, Case has used her senior year to get closer to the Millbrook community.
‘Outstanding Senior’ is a title at Millbrook that is awarded to deserving seniors that have made an impact with students or teachers at the school. The list this year was made up of 15 deserving students, Case being one of them.
Case has many accomplishments, and many of those are from clubs she participates in. She is the founder and president of CARE Impact Club, part of the leadership of the Change Foundation, vice president of French Club, part of the leadership of the IB executive board, a member of Cleanup 919 and a member in Principles Executive Advisory Committee. Case is also in many honor societies including being the president of Rho Kappa, and a member of the English Honor Society, National Honor Society and French Honor Society.
While she is in many clubs, her favorite to participate in is the Care Impact Club. Case said, “I love being able to share my commitment to service with other people, and make an impact in our local community.”
Case has many achievements, but she still has more to accomplish. She said, “Before leaving Millbrook, I want to help lift up underclassmen and encourage them to contribute to the community.” Since her favorite accomplishment in high school has been the Care Impact Club, she wants to continue it after she graduates. Case said, “I have already chosen two underclassmen to continue the Care Impact club next year, and I am excited to see what they can accomplish!” After graduating, Case is looking forward to continuing her schooling in college. She said, “When I grow up I want to be a diplomat or city planner for sustainable development.”
A big choice for students their sophomore year is to decide what pipeline they want to take within Millbrook. The school offers AP, IB, and regular classes. It is a decision that affects your next two years of the high school career. She said, “Yes I am in IB. I chose IB over AP because of the opportunities it gave me to thoroughly explore my interests while learning a curriculum of open-mindedness and global citizenship. I also love the tight-knit community that it offers.”
Choosing the path you want to take is important, but it isn’t the only thing about school. Case said, “I would tell an underclassman that no matter what path in high school you take, there will be ample opportunities for you to learn and grow. I would also encourage them to develop the skills they need to learn, so they can become a lifelong learner and explore their interests on their own.”
She said, “If there was one thing I could change about my highschool career, it would be doubting my abilities during my sophomore year. I didn’t think I would be able to handle taking harder math classes, so I limited myself to only pushing in humanities, which I was more comfortable with.”
High school is about growing your social and academic skills throughout the years. Activities and classes can make this happen. She said, “I can’t pick a favorite year of high school! They were all extremely different, and shaped me into the person and student I am today. My junior year was the most academically challenging, but also the most interesting and inspiring.”
While growing her academic skills, Case also looked up to her classmates and teacher to be successful. Senior Luke Crafton, one of Case’s closest friends says, “Cecilia is such a warm and welcoming person, and she’s super friendly and supportive to everyone around her! In all of the classes that we share she always talks and interacts with new people, and I think that shows how she is able to quickly build connections with new people. This makes her feel very reachable and personable.”
Case has made many connections with other students too. Senior Luke Nordone said, “Cece is really nice. She challenges herself academically which is super inspiring. Her personality makes her really easy to be around, and she is really uplifting. If you need help she is the one to go to.”
High school can be challenging with the different classes and extracurriculars students take during this period, but many will find different ways to maintain it all. Case said, “I manage school and after school activities by having an online planner with all of my school work, and then a calendar with club meetings, drum practices and appointments. This way, I can plan what days work best for studying and which days I need to focus on my extracurriculars.”
Choosing the classes that interest you can help you decide your future career or plan after school. She said, “The things I have done in high school have inspired me to try even harder and succeed. They have not only set me apart from other applicants at competitive colleges, but have helped me grow as a person.”
Academics, athletics and extracurricular activities all make a highschool student be set apart from others. Case has taken the activities she loves, and has used them to help grow her social and academic skills. Ending her high school career, Case will leave with creating a club she is very passionate and proud of, and she will leave knowing the difference she has made with students and teachers throughout the school.
