Micah Ferguson demonstrates what being a “Spectacular Student” is each and every day. Ferguson is a junior here at Millbrook High School. He shows involvement in the classroom and in his extracurricular activities at Millbrook. He enjoys expressing himself within the dance community, while being on the Millbrook Varsity Dance Team and being in the Advanced Dance Company.
With his love and passion for dance he also is a dance teacher for younger children at his church, Seven Marks. Being involved in so many things while also succeeding as a student, further shows the reason that Micah deserves this recognition.
Ferguson is a part of many clubs within the Millbrook community. He is in the Black Student Union and the National Achievers Society, where they contribute to service projects. He is also involved in the Student Equity Team. The Student Equity Team conducts meetings with teachers on work days to advocate for groups and share how the teachers can make their classrooms comfortable for everyone.
Senior Nick Ward, President of the Student Equity Team said, “Micah is a very active and dedicated member of the Student Equity Team. He’s participated in teacher professional development meetings, advising educators on how to make their classrooms more inclusive. His commitment to make Millbrook more equitable is truly admirable.” Ferguson strives to make Millbrook become more equal and overall welcoming to everyone in the community.
Ferguson has developed close relationships with some of his teachers who have supported him throughout the years. He spoke on how Mrs. Cortright was his sophomore year English teacher and has been there for him during hardships every moment since then. Even during times where Ferguson was going through hard times, he never failed to show up at school and his extracurricular activities with 100% effort.
Mrs. Cortright said, “I have really enjoyed getting to know Micah over the last two years. Micah is one of those students who always stops to make sure everyone is doing well and really gets to know his fellow classmates and teachers.” She is just one of the many teachers who have made a positive impact on Ferguson’s life.
Each winter Millbrook hosts a talent show that is soon before the dance of “Winterfest.” His sophomore year, Ferguson performed a solo and impressed everyone. For his performance he played the piano and sang “Je te laisserai des mots,” a song in French. He also performed at the Showcase Fazes Of The Art. Last year he was a part of two acts, and this year he will be participating in five acts. He will be singing a solo, doing a solo dance, being in his friends modeling group, dancing in his friends dance group, and performing a piano and violin duet. The true commitment he puts forth, is absolutely commendable.
Ferguson treats others with so much kindness and respect, which are key traits of being successful. Junior Ndeye Dieng said, “Micah is a great friend who truly cares for everyone and makes sure to be inclusive.” His peers make it clear that he is more than just a student who is involved. Being a spectacular student means more than just doing well in school, rather being a student who makes a positive difference at Millbrook each and every day. Congratulations Micah Ferguson!
