Celebrating an epic win, Cam Newton cheers with his team. Although the glory days for Cam are still not over, numerous disheartened fans and reporters are criticizing his sexiest comment that discriminates against female reporters.

Prominent quarterback Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers is under fire after allegedly making a sexist remark during an interview with the Charlotte Observer leading to the loss of his sponsorship with the Dannon, a  yogurt company. In the interview on October 4, reporter Jourdan Rodrigue inquired about the techniques and routes of teammate and wide receiver Devin Funchess. Newton responded inadvertently that it it was “funny” for a female to discuss football technique as he began to laugh at Rodrigue’s mention of the word “route.” Jourdan took to twitter, to express her discontent revealing that Newton did not formally apologize when she first confronted him. On Thursday October 5, Dannon officially cut ties with Newton, who has advertised for its Oikos Greek yogurt since 2015. The popular yogurt brand made statements claiming that that the remark made by Newton was not an accurate representation of the values of the company. Although Newton will be removed and no longer featured in the Dannon ads, he will continue to be paid throughout the length of the endorsement deal. Later that evening, Cam uploaded a 108-second video relaying his apology. He noted that it was never his intent to target women and that his actions were not dismissible. No other company has made the decision to drop Newton’s sponsorship; however, Gatorade, a sports drink company endorsed by Cam, stated that his actions were not a reflection of the brand’s ideals. Other sponsors of the athlete including the sports apparel company, Under Armour, and the headphone company, Beats, have not commented on the issue and have yet to dismiss the star quarterback from their list of sponsors.
