At the top of every list of unsolved mysteries is the murder of child beauty queen JonBenét Ramsey. Back in 1996, JonBenét was was found beaten and strangled in the basement of her home in Boulder, Colorado. At the time, the media debated various speculation theories about who her killer was; among them were both her parents and her brother, Burke Ramsey. This was due to multiple odd occurrences in how the case went down, such as how a lot of people claimed that her parents seemed emotionless in the aftermath of their daughter’s death. But what if JonBenét did not really die in 1996?

That is what YouTube user Dave Johnson claimed in a video he posted back in 2014. According to him, JonBenét’s death was an elaborate ruse in order to launch a rise to fame later in her life – one where her name was no longer JonBenét, but Katy Perry. The video, now taken down from YouTube, recently resurfaced with a fervor this past year, drawing widespread attention through different social media sites. His evidence includes a lot of small occurrences, like Perry mentioning JonBenét in an interview, a similarity in how they both look, and the aforementioned emotionless reaction of the Ramseys (showing they knew that she was not actually dead, according to Johnson). The biggest component is that many people believe that Perry and Ramsey’s parents look uncannily similar. The theory was actually mentioned to Katy Perry back at the 2017 VMA awards on August 27. When an interviewer told her to blink twice if she was actually JonBenét, the singer responded by denying the rumor and laughing nervously before moving on to the next question.

There are a lot of holes in this theory. For one, JonBenét’s mother, Patsy Ramsey, passed away back in 2006, while Katy’s mother, Mary Hudson, is still alive and well. The biggest thing against the theory is that Perry was born in 1984, making her twelve years old at the time of six-year-old JonBenét’s murder. Senior Nenya Maye said, “There is honestly just too many things wrong with the theory for it to be actually believable. But they do have a creepy similarity.” What do you think; is this the real deal?

Is Katy Perry really JonBenét Ramsey?
