Trump’s Refugee ban ends after 120 days
October 26, 2017
On Tuesday, President Trump pronounced the end of the temporary refugee ban that lasted 120 days. The temporary ban on all refugees worldwide and an ongoing permanent ban on Syrian nationals was announced last January by President Trump. With the the end of the travel ban, applicants from eleven nations will be restricted for a 90 day review period. The eleven countries have not been named yet. Those eleven countries remain secret because of law enforcement sensitivities.
People from the banned countries will not be stopped from applying to enter the United States during the 90 day review, but will only be admitted if their admission is deemed to be beneficial and has no threat to the security of the United States. With the new measures being taken, the refugee admissions program is no longer a threat to the United States. Some of the new security measures include a screening of biographical data and social media checks. With these new background checks, the government believes refugees are safe for entrance to the country. With the end of the ban, many former refugees are relieved that more refugees can have the opportunity to come to the United States.
