Celebrity Hot Seat: The Fling We Never Saw Coming: Sheri Nicole and Yung Gravy

In July, Sheri Nicole and Yung Gravy were first seen flirting with each other over social media, which later turned into much more.  Yung Gravy is an American rapper that became popular for his music and his love of older women.  Sheri Easterling is the mom of the famous TikTok influencer, Addison Rae, and has grown a following on apps like Instagram and TikTok. Her ex-husband, Monty Lopez, was caught cheating in early July, and some people wonder if Yung Gravy was only a rebound and a form of revenge for her, or was it all a publicity stunt?  Sophomore, Maggie Krynock said, “I think they did it for the drama.”

A simple timeline of their relationship started on July 14, 2022, with Sheri posting a video saying she wants her next date to be at a park with Yung Gravy. He responded to this on the “BFFs” podcast, run by Josh Richards, Dave Portnoy and Brianna Chickenfry, by sharing his feelings toward Sheri and their new flirty relationship over Instagram. He admitted they were messaging each other, and they were just having a good time.

On Aug. 11, Monty Lopez, Sheri’s ex-husband, made a video asking Yung Gravy to a boxing match. The video went viral and started the trending #montylopez, due to his immaturity on the matter of the new relationship. After this, Monty turned his Tiktok into a Yung Gravy “fan page,” by continuing to make multiple videos about him, and continuing to push a fight.

This all led up to the first public appearance of Yung Gravy and Nicole at the VMAs. They were seen getting out of a car together at the start of the night, and were spotted hugging and kissing throughout the event.

The most recent event was on Sept. 26, when Yung Gravy was spotted in Buffalo, New York holding hands with another girl. Many comments in the video were of shocked fans, asking, “Where’s Sheri?” and “Yung Gravy, that’s not your woman.”

The strangest factor about this relationship is the age gap. With Sheri being 43 years old and Yung Gravy being 26 years old, there is a 17 year gap between them. Dr. Flowers put that into perspective by saying, “I have a 23-year-old daughter, and if she came home saying she’s dating someone that is 40, we are going to have some major problems.” Senior Josh Luigi agreed, commenting on the situation, “I think it’s weird.”

Although the relationship was quick, it was definitely entertaining. “I don’t think anyone was ready for it,”  sophomore Emily O’Hara said.
