The Oakwood Deli just opened on the corner of New Bern Avenue and South Bloodworth Street in downtown Raleigh. Only opened for a month, this deli has already gained a lot of attention online and throughout the city. Just a few blocks away from the North Carolina State Capitol building, the restaurant is in a great location for locals and tourists visiting the downtown area.
If you’re looking for a restaurant with great variety, this is the place. From breakfast and sandwiches to burgers and quesadillas, Oakwood Deli has something for everyone. The first section of their menu lists smoothies and juices. With seven different juice combinations, there are ones centered around apples, berries and even celery. They also make six different smoothies, with one being called “Lunch in a Cup”. For both, they offer a build your own option and almost 20 different add ons that can be added into any juice or smoothie.
The next section of the menu is a coffee bar. With flavors like espresso, americanos, and cappuccinos, there are classics for the basic coffee lovers. They also have new favorites like iced mochas and a nitro cold brew can. If coffee isn’t your thing, but you still want a hot drink, they also offer hot tea, chai lattes and hot chocolate. There are five add ons offered in this section including whipped cream and different types of milk.
Next, the deli offers a large breakfast section which is served all day. With breakfast sandwiches, burritos, bagels and more, this section provides a large variety along with the rest of their menu. They offer ten different bread choices which can be added to any of the options listed. If you want more of a sit down meal, you could get their Nashville hot chicken and waffles or their “Momma’s plate” which includes eggs, meat and a waffle. If a quick on the go meal is needed, there are bagels, avocado toast and burritos.
Their sandwich menu dominates the other sections in the deli. With 25 different options, there is truly something for every taste bud. There are simple options like grilled cheese, and new combinations like their sandwich “The Nations”. This sandwich includes grilled chicken, Boar’s Head bacon, lettuce tomato, cheddar and mayo on a brioche bun. All sandwiches are customizable to make sure everyone gets the best dining experience possible.
Millbrook teacher Emily Belcher said, “I’ve tried the grilled chicken caesar wrap. It came on a spinach tortilla, and it was really good. I would definitely go back to the deli.”
The last two sections of the menu are burgers, tacos and specialty sides. The burger is only one option, a brioche bun with two thin burger patties, lettuce, tomato, red onions, pickles and mayo. While this is the base, it is fully customizable with over 15 different toppings. There is also the ability to make it a vegetarian patty or add black beans instead of meat.
The burritos, quesadillas and tortas section are the same ingredients with the ability to choose from 11 different meats. From asada to Nashville hot chicken, there are many ways to make fun burritos and quesadillas that you wouldn’t normally have. Their specialty sides allow for fun combos to add to the sandwiches and burritos. There are carne asada fries, chips and guacamole, fried plantains and more.
If you’re just looking for a drink, the deli is known for their rainbow wall of drinks. Anything you could think of is in this fridge. From soda to drinks made in other countries, there is something for everyone. A review from their website said, “Good array of sandwiches, all day breakfast, smoothies and coffee.”
The Oakwood Deli is perfect for families that need varieties, or a good local spot to get lunch. The variety at this restaurant is second to none, and is a great new place to try out.
