Standing in an old watch tower where Irish soldiers used to scope out their enemies, junior Ellie Stiller enjoys her trip to Ireland. Ellie is one of the many Millbrook students who had a memorable 2019.

This past year has been one to remember, bringing with it many ups, downs, and memories for each individual at Millbrook and beyond. On a world scale, many conversations were had regarding serious topics like abortion, women’s rights, gun reform, the vaping crisis, international relations, and climate change. On a more close to home scale, MHS students battled hardships, achieved highly, suffered losses, and experienced all of the highs and lows that come with a 365-day, 12-month, long year. Everyone experiences life differently, and some of the people who sit beside you in your classes could be going through pain or having the greatest day ever, and you may never know about it. 2019 has been groundbreaking for many and forgettable for some. This is how the year went for the students of Millbrook High School.

Ashlynn Hamilton, a senior, learned not to stress too much about everything this year, especially over things out of her control. On the contrary, freshman TJ Inscore had a relaxed year, as he was able to “meet new friends, begin high school, and continue playing baseball.” When Daniel James Morgan, a senior, thinks of the past year, his growth in his faith is what sticks out to him the most, as he dedicated himself fully to developing his Christian beliefs and serving as a leader in his youth group. Daniel believes that he has improved infinitely upon the person he was last year at this time because he is now more confident and genuine than ever before. Adam Razik, a junior, had a year full of growth too! He stated that he has “grown in strength, weight, and height, but most importantly in maturity considering what I’ve been through this past year.” Adam credited his family and friends for assisting him in his mental growth.

Sophomore Kalaiya Corbin shared that the quote which she believes best represents 2019 is “All life is an experiment. The more experiments to make the better,” by Ralph Waldo Emerson. Kalaiya explained herself by revealing, “This quote summarizes my year because I’ve taken more chances. All that I’ve taken a chance on has helped me meet new people, figure out what I’m passionate about, and learn more about myself.” Junior Sarah Mooneyhan had a bit of a tough year, represented by the song which she believes represents 2019 well, “Street Car,” by artist Daniel Caesar. For her, the past year brought a lot of change, and Sarah is reminiscing about old memories. Senior Camryn Lee, however, felt ready for her future this year, stating that her “biggest achievement of 2019 has to be getting into colleges. It has felt really good to see that all of the hard work I put into high school is finally paying off.”

Ellie Stiller, a junior, had the opportunity to travel to Ireland in 2019. She stayed in Air B&B’s and was reminded of New York by the big, crowded cities she visited. Ellie even said that “by just driving around, you would often see ancient buildings out in the open. You would also come across sheep, cows, and horses wandering around.” Cameron Mehraby, also a junior, faced a hardship this year, as his grandpa died early in the year. He explained, “My entire family kind of revolved around him, and now that he’s gone, it’s honestly left a void. We got through it though, and we know he’s in a better place,” then adding “Juice WRLD died too, rest in peace.” Cameron’s words echo those of many students who recently mourned the loss of the beloved rapper. Although a sad end to 2019, so much more happened this year, as can be seen by the highlights, stories, and growth shared by Millbrook students, showcasing the diverse experiences of the Millbrook student body.
