Millbrooks theater productions take an incredible amount of talented people to pull off a spectacular show. Chances are you’ve been to a production where multi-talented senior Lauren Creighton, better known as Lolo, has been enchanting the audience with lights. As Millbrook tech theater’s Lights Crew Chief, Lolo has been working behind the scenes to enhance the cinematic experience.
Lauren has been a part of the creative arts since Freshman year, singing with the choir as well as being a theater enthusiast. She initially began by auditioning for a role in a play, however she was also interested in the idea of helping out backstage. She took a tour of the theater’s different areas and was immediately interested in the lighting section. “I actually enjoy it a lot,” said Lauren when asked about her position, “So I’m glad I didn’t get casted!” Not only does she enjoy her role as Crew Chief but she also enjoys the environment and community created, saying: “I love the people so much and coming here for rehearsals is my happy place…The community I’ve found is amazing and are some of my favorite people ever.”
Lauren leaves an impact on her audience, including her fellow crew chiefs as well. Costumes Crew Chief, Toni, credited Lauren with the reason why she began to participate in the theatrical program, “Without Lolo, I wouldn’t have done it…[she’s] the only reason I did this…Lolo here is a very very very special person.”
Lauren has provided so much for the years that she’s been involved with the creative arts program. She has been a part of Millbrook’s choir since her sophomore year and has since advanced to Celeste (a treble choir of 10 people) as well as being a section leader in the beginning choir. Her fun energetic presence fills up the room> As we wrapped up our interview she wanted to express her thanks for the countless friendships she’s developed. She finishes off the interview with some words to the future light crew members: “Lights isn’t just technical it also has a lot of creativity, it’s definitely less technical and nerdy than it comes across.”
