This week Beyoncé has become the first black woman to top the country’s charts with her song “Texas Hold ‘Em”. Her new album will be released on March 29, and is appearing to be a country album. This album is supposed to be act 2 of her 3 part project. This 3 part project started with her album “Renaissance” that was released in 2022. “Texas Hold ‘Em” has also debuted at No. 2 on the Hot 100 chart. Dolly Parton expressed her love for this song on social media by saying “So congratulations on your Billboard Hot Country number one single. Can’t wait to hear the full album.”
Since Beyoncé was the first black woman to become No. 1 on the country charts this sparked a shift for all of country music. This song also sparked controversy. A country radio station in Oklahoma refused to play any Beyonce song but then he soon caved in and decided to add the song to the playlist. Beyonce’s mom, Tina Knowles states on Instagram, “We have always celebrated Cowboy Culture growing up in Texas”. Then she released pictures of Beyonce growing up and wearing cowboy hats. She also stated “”We also always understood that it was not just about it belonging to White culture only. In Texas there is a huge Black cowboy culture”. This song has marked her 22nd top-ten single on the general charts.
