The Millbrook Theater department has just closed out another remarkable year with their production of the musical “Something Rotten!” Many people congratulate the actors and actresses after the show, but forget integral members behind the scenes. The stage management, tech crew, and costume department are imperative parts of making sure the show goes on smoothly.
One person in the costume department stood out, and her name is Arden Drenzek, a senior in the theater department. “Something Rotten!” the spring musical is Drenzek’s seventh show, along with all of her other extracurricular activities, including being an avid member of FCCLA. Drenzek is the costume’s crew chief, and when asked about how she would describe her role as a leader she said, “I am inclusive, compassionate, hardworking, and organized when figuring out tasks and then dividing them among my crew.” She also added that she tried her best to be understanding and caring to her crew members and cast while being diligent when problem solving or scheduling when an issue arises. These qualities are very important and admirable in a leader and they have not gone unnoticed by others.
Zephyr Woodson, a crew member in the costume department with Drenzek, has worked on three shows with Drenzek. As a leader, she described Drenzek as highly motivated and someone who works very well under immense pressure while still finding the time to care for all. “Arden dedicated a lot of her time to costumes, and she always goes above and beyond to make sure everything goes well both for the crew and for the actors wearing the costumes,” Woodson said when asked about things that are special about Arden. She sees Drenzek as a role model, and admires her ability to juggle tasks and her dedication to the crew even when it’s hard.
Sydney Cutler is a junior who has worked with Drenzek on six shows since Cutler’s freshman and Drenzek’s sophomore year. Cutler too thinks Drenzek is an outstanding leader saying, “She is good at adapting when something changes without prior notice, and she is also great at allotting tasks without being demanding.” When Cutler was asked to use a word to describe Drenzek she used dedicated. “I admire her commitment. Over the years, it’s become easier and easier to recognize the difficulty of her job and I commend her for never leaving.”
With it being Drenzek’s senior year, sadly, “Something Rotten!” will be her final highschool production. She plans to pursue higher education, and we will miss her here at Millbrook!
