Maya Lee’s peers and teachers can all agree on one thing: she exemplifies intelligence, diligence, and compassion. She is known to always put her best work forward. English teacher Ms. Hillary Gale expresses, “Maya is an awesome student who is on top of her assignments. She always has good insights and tries her hardest to understand the subject matter in every class.”
Maya is currently a junior at Millbrook who enjoys singing, traveling, watching movies, and volunteering. She is involved in many extracurricular activities including Varsity Cheer, Varsity Track, Stunt Team, Poetry Club, Photography Club, Interact, Spanish Club, and Junior Class Council. She has been on the cheer team for three years now, being on the varsity team for two years. She has only been on varsity track for one year, but in that year, she was an MVP for field events. She possesses many leadership qualities as she was on Homecoming Court two years in a row, and she was even nominated for an award at the Rotary Youth Leadership Award Conference. Maya being involved in so many clubs, while still having great grades, is what sets her apart from her peers and what makes her such a spectacular student.
One thing you may not know about Maya is that she is a coach for Millbrook Elite Cheer, a cheer squad composed of students with special needs. For thirty minutes every week, she teaches the cheer squad stunts, cheers, and jumps. Each coach is assigned to a cheerleader, Maya’s being a girl named Emily. Maya especially loves coaching Emily. Maya gushed, “Emily is a sweet but soft-spoken girl. She can’t help but smile during our practices, and it makes me happy to see how I’m influencing her first year at Millbrook. I love the Elite Wildcats and Ms. Pitman’s kind heart for letting me be a part of such an amazing program!”
Another thing you may not know about Maya is that she is a part of Millbrook Madrigals. Their choir group has sung at the NC State Capitol building and has come in second place at the Mix 101.5 Christmas Choir Competition. Maya is an Alto two, and is described by her peers as having very strong vocals. Senior Cole Villena commented, “When Maya sings, she’s fearless.” She sings with the Madrigals every day during school, showing her dedication and passion for singing and being a part of this group.
Maya Lee encompasses many aspects of a great student and friend. Junior Kelly Hruska comments by saying, “Maya does everything fearlessly, be it cheer or choir. She’s a fearless person. Her courage and strength is inspiring.” Many things have been said about Maya Lee, but there is one thing that everyone agrees on. No matter what Maya decides to pursue, she will most definitely succeed with her enthusiasm, generosity, and perseverance.
