Queen Bey Reigns Supreme at the Grammys
February 9, 2023
Beyoncé Knowles-Carter continues to reign as queen at the Grammys, having now won 32 Awards. This Sunday held the 65th Grammy Awards, and they were as eventful as ever. The biggest names in music showed up for this celebratory night, with performances from Bad Bunny, Harry Styles, and Lizzo.
As of Sunday, Beyoncé broke the record for having won the most Grammy awards won of all time. Beyoncé had previously accumulated a total of 28 awards following the 2022 awards, pushing her to the title of most awards held by a woman. Carter’s new album “RENAISSANCE” was groundbreaking, blending genres of R&B, Dance music, and pop to create an upbeat fusion that Beyoncé fans have devoured since its release last July. “RENAISSANCE” and singles from the album were nominated for a total of 9 Grammys, the highest number of nominations for this year, followed by Kendrick Lamar.
Beyoncé won 4 awards this year: R&B song for “CUFF IT,” Dance Recording for “ BREAK MY SOUL,” Traditional R&B Performance for “PLASTIC OFF THE SOFA,” and Dance Electronic album for “RENAISSANCE.” With a total of 32 awards, Knowles-Carter passed the record for most Grammys won, previously held by Georg Solti, a classical music figure, who won 31 awards during his lifetime. During her acceptance speech for “CUFF IT,” her 32nd award, she said “I’m trying not to be too emotional. I’m trying to just receive this night. I want to thank God for protecting me. Thank you, God. I’d like to thank my uncle Johnny who’s not here, but he’s here in spirit… I’d like to thank the queer community for your love, for inventing the genre. God bless you.” Aside from a well-beloved album and breaking records, Beyonce recently announced the “RENAISSANCE” world tour, which is set to begin in May 2023.
