Jake Paul has been dragged through the mud as a “boxer”, being called a fraud and many fans critiquing his opponents due to their age and experience level. Despite the hate, Jake Paul finally fought a true professional “boxer”, Tommy Fury, half-brother of the all-time heavyweight great, Tyson Fury. They fought on February 26 in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia and this matchup was a make-or-break for Paul’s career.

It was a tough matchup with Tommy coming out on top by a split decision (74-75, 76-73, 76-73). Throughout the matchup, Fury landed much cleaner and more total shots than Paul throughout the ringside matchup. Jake had ultimately a more accurate fight but overall Tommy had the edge. The fight was mostly one-sided until Jake slipped a knockdown in the eighth round making things close again. Eventually, Fury would maintain his pace and secure the tight victory.

The end of the matchup displayed good sportsmanship even with Jake’s ruthless social media marketing and shots toward Tommy throughout the year. In a post-game interview, Tommy was asked if Jake is a real boxer he responded with, “100%, I’ll give credit where credit is due.” Junior and Millbrook high school and boxing superfan Jake Somerville had this to say about the fight, “Jake Paul should have won! The knockdown should have secured it, it was a split decision so I am surprised it didn’t lean toward him!” Another junior at Millbrook, Jack Austin thought Jake stood no chance. As he said, “Jake is not a real boxer and it showed with his loss against Tommy. I am surprised he lasted as long as he did. The knockdown wasn’t legit Tommy literally slipped. Shouldn’t have been as close as it was.” With Paul’s undefeated record now broken they look forward to a rematch. Both parties are looking forward to putting on another show for the community.
